I just checked my credit report online, and I see that Con Edison (my electric company) checked my credit report last year. Why would they do that? I did file for bankruptcy two years ago (for credit cards), but I’ve been paying consistently to Con Edison for 8 years. Why would they request my credit report?!

how to change lawyers during a bankruptcy chapter 13?
the one i have seems unprofessional, doesn’t communicate well with me and give updates. i want get a new one, but we have already been to the 341 meeting a couple weeks ago and are awaiting the payment plan and confirmation hearing. is there a way i can change lawyers? what will be the process if i do at this point? thanks for any help on this
If the goal is to lower medical and insurance costs, and to include everyone, wouldn’t it make more sense to give a high deductible ( ,000 or more ) insurance to everyone to avoid bankruptcy. With a high deductible, ppl would be more responsible with their doctor visits, and would ask more questions about cost since they’d be paying them.
Filing Bankruptcy? I need help!!!?
I have at least -10,000 in collection debt. I was in a car accident last year that my insurance refused to cover so there’s additional medical and court costs added on there somewhere. I have no job, no license to get to work ro anywhere. I want to file bankruptcy but I keep hearing there are all types of fees and payments. I have {content}. No savings or checking, I own no house or car. Nothing. Someone please direct me in the right place? There has to be some place out there that helps people in my situation. I live in Chicago IL if that makes a diffrence. And I have searched online and got no where.
I am a 30 year old married mother of 2 little girls. My daughters were both born with health problems and both required surgery. This has left our family with a mountain of death for such things as hospital bills and airplane transport. It is our dream to own a home, but at this point we are even unable to get a decent car to drive. A friend told me to look into FHA loans, but we are to the point of needing to file bankrupcty. I am not sure if we should go ahead and try to get a home, therefore saving money as the payments would be lower than our rent, or wait 2 years after we file. My family of four currently lives in a 2 bedroom upstairs apartment, which I am thankful to have, but it isn’t the best for the little ones. Someone please tell me what are we to do? Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

State of Florida. Family of 5. Yearly income of 76K (includes temporary unemployment compensation). Debts are 86K including a HELOC we are attempting to strip. Living expenses include 1st mortgage of 1165, cars 505, groceries, gas, utilities, etc. totaling around 00/month. I am trying to figure my payment to trustee. My lawyer is going back and forth between 0-1000 a month. Does anyone have any idea what it might be based on your experience/knowledge? I appreciate it so much…beyond words. Thank you.
What exactly is checked on a FCRA background check?
I signed permission to do a background check pre-employment. It is the FCRA background check. I have shady credit only because I had bankruptcy 3 years ago. I was told that cannot be a reason to not be hired.
What else may be checked? I have no criminal background but was fired from a job 16 years ago for illness/missed work.
My last employer said she has not heard from anyone yet and the application/FCRA background check permission was filled out online on 7/31.
I ran a credit check yesterday and there was no inquiry on it.
I called recruiting Friday and they said that they couldn’t tell me anything but that my application was there and active.
Stop paying on Chapter 13 Bankruptcy?
I am a few months into a 60 month plan chapter 13 BK. I owe the creditors about 7,700+,700 lawyer fee. I pay .00 every two weeks. And it is set at 70%. I dont have my home included in this, because I make sure I pay this every month and on time. My question is – what are my chances of calling these credit card companies (or the collection agencies that took over these accounts) and asking them to set up payment plan that I can afford with no interest? I want to hear all advise.
I’m filing chapter 7 bankruptcy and owe some back income taxes from 2001,2002 and 2003, was wondering if i could add them to my bankruptcy. Thanks
I’ve been doing a bit of online reading this afternoon and found a few articles that are fascinating. Both of them deal with Norman Hsu, a known political financial contributor.
What Made Norman Hsu Run?
He charmed friends, investors and politicians. But behind lurked failures, a kidnapping and lawsuits
By IANTHE JEANNE DUGAN in New York, JONATHAN CHENG in Hong Kong and BRODY MULLINS in Washington

At a New York restaurant overlooking Central Park in April 2006, the governor of Pennsylvania sat down to dinner with about a dozen Democratic supporters. The 10-course meal in a private room at Per Se, including dishes like Nova Scotia Lobster Tail "Cuite Sous Vide," cost about ,000, says a diner who was there. The host, Norman Hsu, was a businessman that the crowd admired but knew little about.
In the past few weeks, much more has become known about Mr. Hsu: That he had filed for bankruptcy twice, including a time in 1990 when he said he had no income, no job, and little more than a Toyota 4-Runner and a jade ring. And that he was wanted by California authorities for grand theft charges to which he had pleaded no contest in 1992, then fled before facing sentencing.
Mr. Hsu turned himself in on that matter a week ago, after news coverage of his past — which began with a Wall Street Journal article about his unusual campaign giving — had brought the conviction to light and led politicians to hand over some of his campaign donations to charity. Mr. Hsu posted a million bond — and then he vanished again. On Wednesday, when he was supposed to appear in court in California, he instead boarded Amtrak’s eastbound California Zephyr near Oakland. Along the trip he fell, was taken to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., and arrested. On Friday, authorities were taking steps to send him to California.
Mr. Hsu’s lawyer issued a brief statement Friday afternoon saying that "the strain [Mr. Hsu] has been under during the last week has been enormous and, perhaps, unbearable. We will be getting him the best medical care available." As for the charges Mr. Hsu left behind, the lawyer, James Brosnahan, said: "The legal matter pending in San Mateo Superior Court will be handled in its proper course."
Much about Mr. Hsu remains a mystery, most notably the source of the money for the donations that made him a favorite in Democratic circles.

Suspect Donations

Donations from Norman Hsu and other Democratic campaign contributors whose pattern of donations correlates with his.

If you read the first link, it brings up many questions. For instance, considering this man’s background, where did the money come from to make these huge donations? Any clues? Does anyone out there have any more information about this person?
How does Chapter 13 Bankruptcy work in MA?
I live in MA and I am considering filing for Chapter 13. I understand that with Chapter 13 you submit a payment plan to the courts. Does anyone know how they determine what this payment will be? Is it typically a break-even situation every month, where they take your income, minus living expenses, and whatever is left goes towards the plan (thus break even at the end of the month)?
Also, what happens if my income increases after paying into the plan…does that additional income automatically go towards the plan payment (and thus I never really see the additional income)?
WHat about state and federal tax refunds..do I lose those every year until I complete the plan and my remaining debts discharged?
Sorry for all of the questions, but this is all very new for me. Thanks in advance!

What exactly is checked on a FCRA background check?
The potential employer called it a ‘consumer report or investigative consumer report’ in the instructions but it had the FCRA disclosure.

chapter 13 bankruptcy,"Dismissed"?
if you filed chapter 13 in 1982 and it was "Dismissed" in 1988 what does it mean in layman language,my friend looked for info on the internet, but I can’t really explain it to her, because I’m not to sure myself, shes financed 3 cars(one in progress over the years) and has credit cards for many years again and she has good credit score she says, but she was clearing out her paperwork and found a letter that it was dismissed,is it finished ? if it’s not considered discharged ,is the case closed? so now what is the status of her case?
If i file bankruptcy and afterwards an item appears on my credit from before will it get removed?
If i file bankruptcy and afterwards an item appears on my credit from before will it get removed? I want to file bankruptcy but i have a few things that still have not gone on my credit yet and i do not want to wait for them to go on, to get on with my life. So if i file now and they go on my credit afterwards will they get removed, and if so what is the time frame after i file on which it can still be counted?
I lost my job due to downsizing and I have found another job but not as much income.?
I can pay my mortgage, utilities, food cost and car expenses, but I can not make all my credit card debts. I spoke with a bankruptcy attorney and I meet the means test to file a chapter 7. Should I file or just let the credit card bills go into a deliquent state? I can not pay them now and I have spoken with the cc companies and they will not work with me to lower the payments. I owe 35,000 dollars on cc bills too.
