Attn: Anyone who has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy?
My husband and I are going through hard times financially and we have to file for chapter 7. I was wondering if anyone has had a hard time renting after filing for bk? Please help. Thanks!

You actually have an easy time afterwards. No one calling and asking for money. Almost no debts. You will start to get credit card offers within 3 months. Mortgage offers in 2 weeks. The main problem is that 41% of BK filers are back in money trouble in 1 year. They never addressed the root cause of their difficulty handling money. They need to understand that in order to succeed..

My husband died unexpectedly and I had to file bankruptcy. I would imagine it depends alot on where you live and if you have an income. You might want to find a place to live before you file though. It’s not just bankruptcy they have issue with it is your credit rating. I owned my home so I didn’t have that problem but it took me awhile to build my credit back up. If you have a credit card that you can keep up on the payments you might want to keep it. I had to start over with a 300 dollar credit card. I have 3 now but none of them are over 1000 dollars. which is ok with me.
good luck to you

I doubt that they checked my credit when I moved and I never mentioned that fact, even though one lease said I needed to notify them – if you move shortly after the BK, I doubt your credit history would get updated that quick
