My husband and I filed Chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2006. My attorney had my husband change his tax allowances on his paycheck to insure that we would not get a refund. The attorney based our bankruptcy payments on the higher tax allowances. This tax allowance level does not give us enough to pay for our federal taxes. Because of this year we will owe over 00 in federal taxes. We are paying alot of money to the trustee weekly almost 0. That’s over 00 a month to the bankruptcy court. I believe that paying our taxes is a necessity and should have looked at the amount we would pay in federal taxes. We are barely paying bills now. I was working at the time of the bankruptcy filing, but suffered a back injury and can not work. My profession was a nursing assistant. I would love to return to work but no doctor will allow me to care and transfer patients with my back. Any advice?

My husband and I filed Chapter 13 in 2006. Prior to that the attorney asked us to check if we would have a tax refund coming.
My husband found out that we would have a large tax refund coming. The attorney told us to adjust our tax allowances so that we would not have any refund. The reason was that any refund would go to the bankruptcy court. Our bankruptcy payments are based on the higher allowances. I was doing our federal tax filing last night when I realized that we now owe the government over 00 in taxes because not enough money was taken out of my husband’s paychecks. We are barely making ends meet now. There is no way that we’ll be able to afford another 0 a month taken out for taxes. They are to base our payments with disposible income. I believe that paying our taxes is not considered disposible. Should I contact my attorney and ask for the payments to be readjusted? We are paying over 0 a week now. Last year, we paid over 000 to the court.

For my business class, we were given the assignment to find various bankruptcy court records using only online means. Since this is my first business class in years, I am not familiar with searching up such things on the internet. Can anyone tell me of how I go about finding bankruptcy court records?

I am a single person, low income (waitress), just suffered a major medical expense and no insurance. I have lots of credit card debt, no car, house or student loan debt. How much would it cost a lawyer to file my case with bankruptcy court? Thanks!

I have filed chapter 13 bankruptcy and I have not filed my income taxes yet. I have been told that the bankruptcy court can take your refund if you have one due to you. Is that true?
