My grandmother and grandfather have accumulated lots of credit card debt mostly because of my mother (she stole their credit cards in the past and ran em up). I believe the debt is over ,000

Grandpas retired. Grandma still works but will be retiring soon. My mom can’t pay their debt all the people in my family work low wage jobs. They simply don’t care about credit anymore. They pretty much don’t need it. They have a place in their home country that they want to retire to.

I guess I’m the problem. The house, they want to leave to me. They almost did the reverse mortgage thing but realized that as soon as they leave it gets taken away. They also are uninterested in bankruptcy since it costs money. Theyve stopped paying a lot of the cards because they just can’t afford it. What should be done?
By the way, we live in Texas. No liens on property & no wage garnishment. More to add to their indifference haha.
They plan on retiring to a different country. No need for American credit there
@the kid: When did I say I would lose money? I’m concerned because they have worked hard all their lives and have helped me a lot, and deserve a break and to finally go back to their true homes outside the US

I worry because they’re my family and I have watched them suffer because of debt all my life. I want to free them of that burden.

there’s a home that i’m interested in that is for sale by owner and has been that way for approx 4 months. the home is currently vacant. is it rude to ask to purchase the home on a land contract rather than going through banking channels? i’m pretty sure, due to the digging i did online, that the owner passed away in october and left it to his children (scary what you can find online in a short amount of time). i just don’t want to insult them. mine and my husbands credit is ruined beyond repair and have to file bankruptcy. we would like to be able to offer them a balloon payment as soon as possible, possible after 5 or 7 years. realistically, i’d like to lease with the option to buy for 5 – 7 years and then get a loan after the dust has settled for us. i don’t know how to lead into this conversation.
my husband owned a business that went under. that’s the reason our credit is beyond repair at this point. we both now have jobs outside of the home and are making a decent wage. although not enough to dig ourselves out of the financial hole that being self-employed costs. we may be a financial risk, but we’re hard working, trust-worthy people who are just trying to stay afloat in today’s day and age.

My mom and my step dad have declared bankruptcy one or two times in the last 10 years. My older brother now lives with them because his health hasn’t been so great for some time. Needless to say their credit isn’t so good after filing for bankruptcys. Now I hear the bank has gone to foreclose their home and they say to us, their adult children that they have their lawyer working on it but don’t tell us much else. My parents havent made such great choices about their money in the past so we are pretty skeptical. Not only that a majior reason why they are in this finacial hell is because my step dad fell for an internet e-mail scam. I and my brother am trying to help them as much as we can with our own practical smarts but they haven’t told us any details so far. From what we gather my parents could be housless come Febuary. What can be done to help them legally and, or what would you do about all this?
I don’t know what form of bankruptcy they have filed this time.. but they say they will be required to pay all of their bankruptcy debts off and keep up with all of their incoming future bills they will have too.
Step dad works two jobs. My mom is on disability. My older brother also works but he is the one who has been sick (and even though its not HIV or AIDS he may also be ill for years to come too) is now working at a Taco Del Mar.

Where can I find a loan with poor credit rating? I have a loan with a lender, but, it’s at such a high interest rate and need to get my payments cut. Banks don’t want to talk to me. (No Nigerian lenders, please). I’ve tried Prosper (have a current listing), but no bites, yet. I’m already working 2 jobs and do not want to file for bankruptcy. Divorce has put me in dire straits. Is there ANYONE out there that can help? I myself actually prefer the online best payday loan lenders but i dont know what site I should do the search. Can you help? Thanks

I’ve had to drop out of college. (Devry)
For many reasons, but one main one being that I felt (and experienced) that Devry is a very inadequate school and promises much more than they can give.

Firstly, they trapped me with the "If you drop out of school now, you’ll have to start repaying your loans the day after" which scared me into staying longer. (I was 17 at the time)

After being unable to stand the garbage education they were giving me, I decided to drop out. After dropping out, I was slapped with a 36,000 bill with nothing to show for.

After not being able to pay off 7 different loans at 0 a month each, I consolidated.

I still cannot pay what they are asking.

Can I get these bills discharged in a bankruptcy?
Especially after they were consolidated?

I feel I was wronged by Devry and lost 3 years of my life with an enmormous bill to boot currently working jobs making less than an hour. It just doesn’t seem right that I have to pay for absolutely nothing.

now if it weren’t for my previous job lying to the unemployment security department and telling them that i quit, then i wouldn’t be in this situation, but unfortunately i am. i haven’t had a job for 9 months and the economy is terrible. i’ve been trying with every strength in me to get a job, but unfortunately nothing has happened. i already lost my apartment, and the only thing left is my car. and even that, i’m 3 months behind on. i have so many bills and probably owe about 5k to medical bills and credit cards. but the main thing i’m concerned about is my car. i still owe about 8k on it, and have paid about 4k. i have absolutely no money. and my parents don’t have jobs either. i’m basically screwed.

do i qualify for bankruptcy? i already have HORRIBLE credit, and i’m not all that concerned about it. would i be able to keep my car? i honestly don’t have anything else to my name of any worth at all. not even a cell phone. i’m finally going to have my 3rd unemployment hearing (after 9 months they still haven’t made up their minds), and if i do get the money, i could use it to get out of debt since i’ve been claiming for so long. it’s the only thing that could help right now, but i can’t count on. i just absolutely CANNOT BELIEVE that my employer LIED and put me in this mess. i’m only 20 years old, trying to go to school, and i’m basically homeless. i have to live at my friends houses and ask them for money.

i guess they can take my pride and my self-worth, but they can’t take my life right?

It’s quite obvious why jobs go over seas besides the employees willing to work for low wages, it’s simply because the cost of employment is expensive. All the red tape, licensing, insurance, pay-roll costs like medicare, unemployment, workers comp, social-security, and other nonsense.

It eventually comes to a point to where starting a business becomes too bothersome.

If you want jobs to stay here you must be willing to be competitive. All these entitlements make it hard for companies to meet these ridiculous demands.

It’s Obvious the Chinese Company has less burdens and a cheaper product then the American one. Thus the American one isn’t competitive enough and faces bankruptcy. This happened with GM and all the entitlements it had to give to it’s Union. It’s going to keep happening until American’s decide to stop demanding more then what they earned. Otherwise jobs will continue to ship over seas.

Learn to be competitive. Not complain.
Matthew D: You forgot that GM was down 5,000 before the car’s raw materials were even ordered to pay for retired Union workers pensions. Check Mate.

I am claiming chapter 7. I started a new job 6 months ago after being out of work for a few months and don’t make enough money to live on. I did get ,000.00 from my dad’s life insurance policy that I had not cashed until recently. My sister had been paying some of my bill’s for me over the past 6 months and even before that because I was between jobs. So when I decided to claim bankruptcy I cashed in the account and gave it to my sister. After paying back what she has been paying for me there is only 4 or 5 thousand left. She has put it into her account. Do I need to tell attorney about this money? and if so will I be able to keep it? I have not had a bank account for months now, but the ,000.00 was in an account under my name with the life insurance company.

I have had an extraordinarily bad year: sporadic employment, lost my car in an accident, etc. I am seriously considering filing for Chapter 7. All my credit card accts are closed now and under a debt mgmt company (I did this to lower my rates), but since I have no money coming in, I can’t pay them anymore.

I have zero assets to take…my most valuable possession is probably a queen-sized bed. I have no plans to get a mortgage in the next five years, won’t need a car if I continue to live in this same city, and have no desire for credit cards. I just want to bring my monthly overhead to something manageable and restart my life. I live pretty modestly…studio apartment, don’t go out to eat, don’t take fancy vacations, etc.

Is it worth my while to file for bankruptcy? I don’t have creditors or collectors after me yet, but unless I find a job in the next month, that will soon be the case.
If I could find a moderately-paying job (say even 10K less than I have been making in the past), I could pay minimums…however, when you are unemployed, it doesn’t matter how much you owe.

I also want my life back. I’m tired of being so poor I can’t even go see a movie on the weekends. I admit, the idea of having my monthly nut cut in half (with cessation of CC debt) sounds pretty great.

I know that it might be tougher to get an apt in the future…I can’t predict 5 yrs from now, but I’d be OK even staying where I am for the time being. As for jobs…well, I can’t say how often employers check that sort of thing…it’s kind of comical that a bankruptcy would mean you’re more likely to stay unemployed when you think about it.

I can’t help but feel sorry for people who are going into debt for a fake education. The job market is horrible, and you can’t file for bankruptcy on student loans…not to mention half the degrees are for jobs that don’t even exist.

My exwife has purchased a home for 6 years at 130k her mortgage is so excessive she had to take a second mortgage. She filed a second chapter 13 bankruptcy to save the house and her car but my child support pays what she is garnished. I work two jobs at 8.00hr with wages garnished for child support at 0 monthly for two children. I need to seek modification and should I disclose to the courts that she lived in a home outside her means or just worry about my own needs and source of income? and why?

How can we convince employers to keep their production in our own country? Maybe a nation-wide boycott of a luxury product would help. By that I mean, toys, autos, electronic equipment, or whatever. I know it costs more to manufacture here, but the greed at the top is pretty extravagant. Middle and lower classes in the U.S. are struggling, while the rich get richer. I pity the thousands who can’t affdord the mortgages on their new homes. Bankruptcy is at an all-time high, according to the L.A.Times. I know, bad loans. Any ideas?
Hmmm….some very conflicting answers…I’m not advocating anything communistic…just jobs, for instance, for Detroiters who keep losing their jobs in auto factories…just an example!

I used to be very responsible with my money. I have about 3 years worth of college but never finished with an bachelor’s degree. I used to work and have a great life and my own apartment. When I moved back home, My very negative mother and somewhat controlling parents greatly rubbed off on me. I have had trouble ever since. With college, jobs, and money and ended up filing bankruptcy, because I was trying to rebel against their lectures on credit cards. Now I cant do anything. My mom has become this mean dictator, and I see her true colors. My dad just doesn’t understand. I need to get an apartment and I know I could keep my job after I got my own apartment. I’d just visit my friends and limit my time with my negative mother!
Do you think there is any chance the bank would loan me about 1,500 dollars for a loan on an apartment?? I am also a part time college student.
thanks so much.

How did you know u were in way over your head? how did you do it? were you able to keep anything at all? (i’d like to keep my car, phone, and possibly one card that i use only to pay tuition and pay off every quarter as soon as my tuition reimbursement check comes in) How was life after? Were you relieved? Miserable? Why?
how does it mess you up? just when you are trying to buy something like a house, car? or if you want a credit card or loan?
i dont go out anywhere now i always have to stay home. i work 2 jobs and every penny goes to these bills i barely have enough money after to put gas in my car. haven’t been to the grocery store in months. haven’t bought anything for myself in over a year and a half..

people advise against filing bankruptcy because "it will ruin your credit score"?
What do you do if you just dont have the money to get out of debt and you have LOTS of it and the interest just makes it worse and worse?
The icing on the cake is that it actually costs you at least 00 just to file for bankruptcy. What if you can’t even afford that?
If you file bankruptcy then yes, it will be on your record for 7-10 years. But if you just remain in debt that you physically can’t pay back, wont that remain much longer? It will just never go away.

And to top it off, jobs run background AND credit checks now so we can’t even get jobs that pay enough to afford to pay back debt on top of regular everyday expenses.

Ok. So, my husband and I had to file bankruptcy at the end of last year because both our jobs laid us off about the same time and we both hit significant pay cuts. We had bought a house when we were married and when we lost our jobs, it became tough to keep the payments on the house, utilities etc. Also we had a newborn shortly after it happened. So basically a lot of things happening at bad times.

Not everyone who files bankruptcy are bad people with credit. We had absolute perfect credit. Paid our bills early and used the credit cards we had to pay certain bills then used the cash we had for those bills to pay credit cards back. We had a very good system going and it was all working out for us. Then all this happened.

My question is, how do we start building back our credit? Besides paying bills on time, that is. We have been searching for credit cards to help get us started and every single one we find tells us to pay processing fees. (Secured, in other words) Are there any companies that do not make you prepay or make a deposit for bad credit applicants?

There is an important trip coming up so that I can see family that I have not seen for half my life and we will need extra money in which we will not have until after the trip. A credit card would really help us out and we could build credit at the same time (kill 2 birds with one stone)

I really need some advice. Thanks to everyone who is willing to help.
Age of Reasons: It was a good system because it worked for us for 2 years. Unfortunate circumstances does not change that.

I apply for jobs but after background check, get no call backs. I do not have a criminal record but do have a judgment on my credit from 2002 and filed bankruptcy 2003. does anyone know if there is information online posted by past employers? may also have a negative reference but that should be 7 years old.

With so many people out there suffering, going through foreclosures, bankruptcy and losing jobs, his wife went onstage wearing a 0,000 outfit. Really? How insensitive to those of us that are struggling!
