I used to be very responsible with my money. I have about 3 years worth of college but never finished with an bachelor’s degree. I used to work and have a great life and my own apartment. When I moved back home, My very negative mother and somewhat controlling parents greatly rubbed off on me. I have had trouble ever since. With college, jobs, and money and ended up filing bankruptcy, because I was trying to rebel against their lectures on credit cards. Now I cant do anything. My mom has become this mean dictator, and I see her true colors. My dad just doesn’t understand. I need to get an apartment and I know I could keep my job after I got my own apartment. I’d just visit my friends and limit my time with my negative mother!
Do you think there is any chance the bank would loan me about 1,500 dollars for a loan on an apartment?? I am also a part time college student.
thanks so much.

What are the advantages and more so what are the disadvantages? I think i’m pretty up to date on the advantages, I hire a lawyer, he notifies companies I owe money, they have to write me off and can’t call anymore? Is that about right? As far as disadvantages I know it hurts your credit but so does defaulting on loans and credit cards, I owe about ,000 right now not counting my 2 car loans, and what happens with those, it won’t pay off your cars right? But it won’t hurt what you already have set up will it? I try to look stuff up online but can’t find any real help because it just pops up a bunch of debt consolodation companies and I already talked to one of those and realized it was only gonna save me about a month and stretch out what I already owe longer! Thanks for the help and ideas:)
my grandmother filed years ago and the lawyer was able to get everything written off and they kept their home and truck so I was under the understanding that maybe there are different levels or branches of bankruptcy? It is very confusing and hard to get a straight answer it seems for my particular situation, I think I may try to call a lawyer today and see if I can figure it out a little better. I went from making .00 an hr to .75 an hour because of helping a family member and my hubby makes about 0 to 00 less per week then he was making so that’s why we are in such a bad spot now, and there are no good jobs around here right now trust me I have been looking and applying for something better for over 6 months now.

Hey everybody,

I’ll be 23 in a few months. I’ve already been married & we bought a house [but due to a pipe busting in the winter & causing a ton of mold & then five trees falling on the house in a wind storm that the insurance company did not want to fix], the home ended up going into foreclosure. The loan was not in my name, however my name was on the deed. I’m not married anymore & the last time I checked my credit, the house did not show up but, I think that was before it was actually foreclosed on.

He & I have two credit cards [probably 00 of debt total] that I have to pay half off of [so, about 00 right there.]
Then I have a Kohls & Macys card [about 0 total].
Then I have three other items that are not credit cards that come to about ,050.

Total, I have just a little under ,000 worth of debt which I know doesn’t seem like much but, after I deduct all my bills, I don’t have much money left. Things keep popping up left & right like medical expenses & tires for the car, etc & whenever I think I’m starting to get ahead, I end up even further in debt. I already have two jobs, I already save as much money as I can. Every bit of debt that I have has already gone to collection agencies so I can’t go online & pay on anything.

I’m just wondering if [since my credit is already horrible] I should just file for bankruptcy. If I did, would the foreclosure still show up [assuming that has affected my credit]? Would it be easier to rebuild my credit after bankruptcy or repair it by paying everything off? If bankruptcy is my best option, how long will it affect me? Will I be able to rent an apartment? What if a few years from now, I want to buy a house or condo? If bankruptcy is not my best option, is there any programs that aren’t scams that I could use to consolidate or something? Not sure if this makes a difference but, I do have a 2007 car that I bought brand new. I have three years left of payments & I’m current on it. I’m thinking about trading it in for a vehicle with AWD.

Serious answers only please. I’m trying to figure out what steps that will help me further myself faster. Thanks in advance.

I am 22 years old. Shortly after turning 16, my father passed away at the age of 38. I was diagnosed later with PTSD stemming from his death and the fact that I was in a situation where I was unable to mourn his death. Two days ago, my mother died at the age of 43.
I have a good support system in my friends, but my mom’s family is a nightmare. I feel that I need additional support right now.
I have lost two jobs due to business bankruptcy and was recently severely injured in a fall, so I cannot afford any added expenses. I need to find either free grief counseling in my area (just south of San Francisco) or free online support, like a chat room or forum. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I posted this question two weeks ago and received one answer. However, the link I was given led to websites that are now defunct or websites that dealt with the loss of a child or spouse.

On to the question:

I filed chapter 7 bankruptcy on November 16th of 2009. I just went to court on January 11th, 2010. Is there anything special I need to do before I file? I worked a couple jobs last year, 1 for 9 months and the other 3 months, random jobs. I was reading online that some items included in the bankruptcy may be taxable? How is this possible, if the item isn’t owed or if it was a car, taxes weren’t paid but weren’t fully charged, right? I understand on credit cards, if I purchase things they are taxed and the taxes are included on the charges made to the credit card, which I didn’t pay, of course, since I filed bankruptcy.

I don’t really know what to exactly do, will turbo tax do it or do I need to hire a specialist? Thanks!

ok i’m in debt……my own stupidity yes. over 00 in credit cards and 00 owed to the irs. I work two jobs but still find it hard to make ends meet. The Irs takes out money once a month from my checking account and I have enlisted help from one of those debt consolidation places but I’m still having major problems. How much more would my life be screwed up if I claim bankruptcy? Please let me know what you think, especially if you’re in finance. thanks

Every thing was fine until outsourcing came then high returns due low operating cost leads to unprecedented spending by big Co’s one like credit lending which land them up in bankruptcy and also native people were left without jobs which in turn means no money to pay there dues or invest in the market during these situation.

I had a bankruptcy in2005, but now I get job interviews that are very positive until they see my credit and then all of a sudden they are not interested. I have children to support, but I am only able to find jobs willing to pay 12-13/hour. I can’t pay my bills on that income, and it is illegal to live in your car in the state of Illinois. I have an AS in Accounting and I am currently taking online courses for my BS.

I also am without a residence right now and no appartments will take me. My credit history up to about 6 months before the bankruptcy was very good – and I am in my 40’s.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When it should be dealing with the impending bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare, when it should be worried about illegal immigrants, when it should be dealing with the brain drain and export of American jobs overseas, when we’ve become embroiled in overseas wars that have destabilized parts of the world and appear to have no end and we are running up huge deficits? Given these big issues why is flag burning and online gambling of national importance?

My husband and I have just lost our jobs and we own 3 properties that are not worth what is owed on them. We have great credit scores but cannot get the banks to talk to us about alternatives to keeping the properties at a reduced payment or sellling on short sale. We have to ruin our credit first and then they might talk to us… We have have the properties on the market but cannot sell without going to the table with large amounts of cash.
If these properties foreclose or we go into bankruptcy.. Can the creditors attach or take our retirement savings to satisfy debt?
thanks for your help..

I sit hear in hotel working 3rd shift, I struggle everyday, living paycheck to paycheck. I was 250K in the hole and filed for bankruptcy in 2007 and in Jan of 2008 it all was discharged (eliminated) except for 00 dollars which I am paying to AMEX for the next 5 years. 120 a month for 60 months. I really burned myself with this sad event. I guess my question is what does one do after BK, I can’t go get a loan at a bank, good jobs are tougher to get and I just become more frustrated everyday i mean this is like a jail sentence, I don’t do much of anything anymore, my paycheck, lets me have enough for the bare essentials. I am single and living with my folks at the moment, but really can’t get ahead much, I tried getting financial aid through the government, but did not qualify, school is to expensive, so there goes my chance to finish my degree in business. I have been working as a night auditor at a hotel for the past 2 years. No insurance, no overtime, no benefits whatsoever, WTF. I am not married, if I was my wife would probably have divorced me by now. I just don’t know where to look to get the ball rolling again. I don’t want to complain, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to begin again and live a normal life without the constant fear of losing it. If you have been through BK please let me know what you did to make things better, I at the point where I am just not moving at all in my life, need your advice. Help!!
