What does the judge look for in your bank statements in a bankruptcy?
I’ve had a hard time the past couple of years. From having an unexpected surgery that cost over 27K to temporary unemployment and then a low paying job. I am thinking of going for chapter 13 bankruptcy since I got a better paying job now and I know I can’t file for a chapter 7. However, I’m worried because the lawyers have asked me for 6 months of bank statements and for the past 5 months I have been living with my parents and not really paying for anything other than my living expenses. At that point it was useless to pay anything to my credit cards since by then they wanted me to pay all or half of my debt to them. Now I have a job and I finally got my own place. I guess my question is; if I take the bank statements and they see that out of the 6 months I’ve only had big living expenses in the past month, would this have a negative effect in my outcome? I’m not asking for a chapter 7. I do wanna pay my debtors, I just can’t pay all of it. By now its almost 50K with medical bills and credit cards. Thank you for your answers.
