with Sallie Mae and my understanding was that it wasn’t dis chargeable. Since that meeting I haven’t made a payment to my student loan and usually when I am a day late i get harassed by them with phone calls to my house, cell and work. I have not been contacted and on my credit report Sallie Mae posted that it was included in bankruptcy. My petition included Sallie Mae so is there a chance that I have slipped through the cracks and my loans could be discharged? I also try to log into my account online to see my balance and it is no longer available and it gives me a number to call. I call and can never speak with anyone. any help on the subject is greatly appreciated.

Here’s the deal.. I know I’m going to graduate with loans that I will be paying off well past retirement. There are a lot of things I want to do in my life and paying for the overpriced cost of my education will no doubt keep a tether on many aspirations. Supposedly, the only conditions that will allow repayment to be terminated are either death or bankruptcy. What’s to keep me from filing for bankruptcy? Are there qualifications to be met? Why is it not a common thing? My dad filed for bankruptcy and he was back on his feet in less than a year. Do the negatives outweigh the positives? If not, how can I fake my own death? (just kidding about the last question)

I am 33 years old single female.I have no children. I live alone. I pay rent in my small apt. I still owe my car. My debt is right now k and is increasing every month because of the interest. Debt its in credit cards and medical bills. I’m a licensed massage therapist and I’ve tried to work in lots of spas but all of them are terribly slow. The most of the days there are no clients. Now I work daytime in 2 spas and nighttime with private clients. But not everyday I have clients either daytime or nighttime.I don’t work with a doctor because I make less money than what I can make in spas and on my own. My income right now is around k annual with a debt of that’s its increasing each month. My lines of credit have been reduced, now I’m only paying the minimum amount and without enough credit available to spend. I am getting physically very sick (which affects my job) and mentally very depressed because of this. I have never being late in any credit card bill, but I will be very soon because the minimum payments will be higher and impossible to pay. I don’t care if I have to pay rent the rest of my life. I just want to be peaceful and pay my basic bills, live in an apt, keep my furniture, my tv and my car. I don’t have luxury and I don’t care about luxury. I have known a lot of people that in 3 years they have built a great credit after a bankruptcy. And I know I can build it up again well someday.I have a friend that 2 years after filing for BK, start receiving tons of credit cards offers. I know that the economy it’s too bad, that millions of people are filing for bankruptcy and the banks make money from interest so sooner or later will offer credit and loans because they won’t have any other choice. About consolidating debt, I have to cancel my credit cards but still paying monthly payments. It’s what almost I’m doing right now, paying but not be able to spend! so what’s the difference? that I’ll be in the newspaper, not being able to buy a house, not getting credit cards for the next couple of years? I don’t think that’s too bad.I can live with that. What I can’t live is with stress, being sick, being depressed, not sleeping well, not eating well because I have to work so hard to pay a huge debt!! So, what would you do in my case? Thanks for reading my thread! and happy holidays.
I would do it if I can pay off my debt in just one year!! but in the track I’m going, the debt will be almost doubled and will be impossible to pay it even in 3 years! And I can work my ass off, but is not only in my hands to do it, the economy is BAD, and in my job, everywhere I look is BAD, so it’s not only depending if I work my ass off or not! I prefer to be embarrased the rest of my life of filed for BK instead of being embarrased because I was sued from my creditors and having all my belongings (like car) repossesed, and being almost homeless! Credit cards are poison, I don’t care getting one again someday actually. I have friends that they don’t have a credit card for years and they are happy. I don’t know why it’s so important for some people to own a house. I can live paying rent, I prefer investing in something more valuable than that, like education and good health.
Yes.. all of you are right. I’m gonna do my research with lots of companies that helps to consolidate debt. I need at least my debt go down 50%!! and decrease for sure the interest rate!
Oh no, I don’t have anything in luxury!! I have a dodge!! you think that is luxury?? I have 60k in debt because has been accumulated by interest for the last 3 years! how I’ve said: my profession is slow everywhere, is not that easy like "finding second job"! there are no clients! don’t you get it?? and actually I’m working daytime in 2 spas and nightime with privates! I arrived at home at 12am sometimes later because my privates live 1 hour away! I DON’T HAVE ANY LUXURY!

Hi,
My house is going under foreclosure and there are two loans. The second loan put a judgment on me. I am trying to sell the house under short sale. Will they come after me for whatever money they loose? If so, to what extent? If I file for bankruptcy will that take care of this mess so that I can begin to rebuild my life? I don’t have anything of value and currently unemployed and my family and I are actually living with my parents in their apartment now. I am a first time buyer and have not refinanced. The house was bought on November 2007. I also stopped paying about five months ago when all this began. Will this never end and will they come after me until I die?
WHAT CAN I DO?

I know that the case will be dismissed, will the person that filed have to go to court if there case is dismissed or do they just go to there Attorney to sign dismissed papers? Will the creditors start back calling? If they had Loans out will they have to pay them like they were before they went bankrupt? What else will happen? Can someone please if you know answer all the Questions… Thanks
why should i not let it be dismissed? what will happen other than the crediters start calling back

—> to be honest, i know some of you also share the same problem as i do…

(BANKRUPTCY,"MONEY SHORTAGE", POVERTY,)

im only 17, im still studying in college, i still depend on my parent’s finances in short…(palamon sa magulang), anyhow,…my parent’s finances are also in a break down, turmoil and disorienting, (LUGI, CRISIS,RECESSION), our cupboards and refrigerators that used to be overflowing with groceries, are barely empty, we need new parts for our CPU, but we don’t have the money to exchange and lastly,….the "TUITION FEE CRISIS"……

—> we will really appreciate it if you help us out…;-) thanks in advance
homer simpson….wow!, i didn’t realized that you are stalking me all the time in this website…hahaha..

you noticed our big house?!!? really?? …well actually that is the main reason why, our family is broke….all the savings, loans investments etc. are spent in building that house…so yeah! ;) , thanks for the concern

Question here. I will be filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Due to helping others out (out of the goodness of my heart) and not being repaid any of my money, I cannot keep up with my bills. I am not proud of this because I am so young and I should not be in this position. But, i put my self there and I am doing what i have to do in order to get rid of my debt. My question is. If you have secured loans, is some of the interest going to be taken off of the loans? Do they negotiate with the creditors to lower the current bill. For example, I took out a loan with a finance company for about 6500.00. My bill is about 15900.00 right now. The interest rate is extremely high for a 5 year period. I felt ripped off, but at the time seriously needed the cash. Will they negotiate to lower the interest rate so I wont have to pay all of this back. Another question, I know payments are based on your disposable income once a month. Is there a limit they can take from you. I live in Louisiana.

I see that most of you are against it. That’s precisely why i asked this question, to hear it from people with life experience.
As far as this question making me come off as a deadbeat, I have no guilt when it comes taking money from the govt. for my education. I’m as hard working as anyone else who pays their taxes and unfortunately, I don’t get much say in the rediculous things they waste my money on overseas rather than putting it back into their country for higher education that is open to the public like they do in Europe. I make nearly nothing and have several ongoing medical conditions to battle(which i don’t have insurance for by the way since that’s not free either) while working AND going to school. How much did FASFA award me? -Absolutely NOTHING. I’m paying k for school this year in all loans(which the govt. was eager to give be paid back in the absence of their donations). Now, …who’s taking advantage of who?
Forgive me for my lack of empathy.
Open your eyes.
Haha… yes, I am going into the fine arts.
Is it any coincidence that the majors that make the least money are the most expensive to go into?

I am looking for some advice. My husband and I are considering filing for bankruptcy. What I would like to do is have him file single vs. joint as most of the debt we have is in his name. He has about ,000 in credit card debt and loans. The only joint purchase we have is our car. The amount of debt I have myself is under 00. We have 2 small children. The problem is my fear of what would become of our lives AFTER bankruptcy. I am self employed and will have a harder time qualifying for loans without him. In our family he is the major bread-winner. He is currently working both a full and part time job and we still aren’t cutting it. He has been at his job for over 10 years. We are currently renting and would like to buy a home in the future and provide security for our children.

I have improved credit after filing bankruptcy about 5 years ago . I was able to secure auto loan and capital one card , but I find I am desperate for small loan of about 1,500 and most payday loan places offer a max of 800.00 in our area. I am also very scared of all the online fast loans due to scamming for information .Any ideas?

I’m stuck in a horrible cycle of paying one loan off and then going back the next day to get the money to pay the next one. I am going to file chapter 7 bankruptcy. It takes about 3-4 months to complete. What should I do with the loans that I owe now? Please help!! Thank you
I plan to include them in my bank, but what do I do with them while I am filing? Any idea’s?

Thanks again
Has anyone been thru this before?

I filed for bankruptcy about a month ago, and paid him in full last week for chapter 7. Well my bills for my loans and credit cards are due again and I’m wondering do I still have to pay them since i already paid my lawyer and filled out all the paperwork for the chapter 7. Or do I just let it ride until he does whatever it is he does?

I am looking for a good company to buy leads from for a mortgage company that specializes in ‘hard to do’ loans such as bad credit, bankruptcy, etc. Would prefer to find out about great live leads companies as well as lower cost leads that have a high closing rate. With so many of the companies out there, it is hard to find a really good one with a good reputation.

I don’t want to file bankrupcy, but I have been unable to find a decent job for the past 8 months. I’ve had to use my credit cards for things like groceries and gas. I can no longer make my minimum payments, although I can pay a small portion. Further, I have been accepted to graduate school but I might not be able to afford it unless I file for bankruptcy or only pay a portion of my minimum payments. I have researched bankrupcty and the alternatives, but it seems so hard to get objective advice. Most information sources have a vested interest in the topic. Some claim that a bankrupcty will make it impossible to obtain future credit and prevent you from getting a job. Others claim it’s not so hard to get credit cards or loans. I know a bankruptcy won’t be fun, and I feel terrible to be considering it, but I’m wondering whether it’s really as bad as everyone thinks it is. Can anyone give me some advice or direct me towards an objective source of information? Thank you.

I have had credit trouble in the past. I am now trying to rebuild. I am finding it hard to get a mortgage loan or a major credit card. I have read stories about people getting loans with credit scores lower than mine. I found National City bank on a web site with stephen’s life after bankruptcy newsletter. Where are people getting these loans, with low credit scores. I live in Alabama. I can’t get a bank loan. I am not in bankruptcy. Please tell me the names of the mortgage companies that can work with me. I have read stories where people credit score is in the 500’s. They are buying cars and homes right after they file bankrupt. Thank you
